Tramway block switches
Block switches, produced for both right and left diversions, can be used used as facing as trailing. They are designed for use in the most demanding conditions of tramway tracks. Switches guarantee a high level of passage safety, quiet function, ecologically harmless and a long lifetime with minimum requirements for maintenance. The switch is made of block and of grooved rails of the profile required by the consumer (NT1, NT3, 60R2, 60R1, 73C1, Ph37, NP4, RT62, etc.). Each switch consists of two half-switches set into the track gauge by means of gauge bars. The half-switch is a weldment of the rail quality steel block and rails of the required section and quality. There surfaces CNC machined on the weldment for the changeable blade and the corresponding courses of grooves. The changeable blade is made of the rail material or abrasion resistant steel sheets; it is fastened to the block switch with a self-locking wedge. The fastening self-locking wedge is secured against accidental loosening by a screw joint. The turnout is either welded on the underlay steel sheet 16 mm thick, by means of which the switch is fastened to the sleepers, or is just delivered in the same height as the rail. Half-switches are heated by heaters screwed to the block switch from the side or are situated under the switch body in area under the slide surface. Heaters are replaceable and are inserted in stainless protectors. Both half-switches are equipped with covering wedges that facilitate the switch installation in a paving or in other surface modifications.
Block switches ensure:
- In cooperation with the facing or trailing setting system an automated or manual setting of the switch blades into the required direction and thus a safe tramway train passage in the straight or branching direction
- The switch construction enables the use of modern, unified setting devices with the setting and checking rod.
